Dr. Michael Chieng is a specialist in gastroenterology and hepatology who has trained across various health boards in New Zealand. He has a strong clinical background and is an active Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP). He has clinical expertise in managing a wide range of gastrointestinal diseases, as well as performing diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy procedures.
Beyond his clinical work, Dr. Chieng is actively involved in clinical research, medical education, and quality improvement initiatives. At Centre for Surgical Science (CSS), he is establishing an international, multi-centre RCT assessing the effect of antibiotics on the development of colorectal cancer precursors. He has previously published in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals and has presented at leading international conferences.
Dr. Chieng has received multiple awards in recognition of his contributions to gastroenterology and medical education. In 2025, he relocated to Denmark, where he continues his research as a PhD candidate at the University of Copenhagen. Outside of medicine, he enjoys photography, football, and is an avid supporter of Arsenal Football Club.
