I am a colorectal surgeon with 30% clinical activity and 70% research dedicated to investigating and implementing new methods for improving perioperative and surgical care. Founder and Head of Center for Surgical Science (CSS), a multidisciplinary group of scientists within the field of surgical pathophysiology. Within the group (more than 50 members), there are biologists, data scientists, bioinformaticians and clinical researchers involved in in vitro research, animal research, clinical research protocols (including multi-centre international trials) and big-data methodologies. A major focus is on understanding the individual risk profiles of patients undergoing colorectal cancer surgery and its effect on short and long-term oncological outcomes. A special interest is in big data and translational medicine through research collaboration with basic scientists and data scientists
