I have been part of Center for Surgical Science since the beginning and for more than a decade I have had a special clinical and research interest in ventral hernias and abdominal wall reconstruction. In recent years I also have focused on improving outcome after bariatric surgery as well as other high volume upper GI benign surgical procedures. Through, my daily practice as a clinician and research involvement I collaborate with a large network within Europe and the United States.

Through my work with the Danish Hernia Database, have I been increasingly aware of the major impact collaboration and dedication can have when it comes to improving the outcome for patients.

My research is often based upon large scaled registers and several are published in high impact journals. I been involved in the development of European hernia guidelines as well as Danish guidelines.

In my private life I spend time renovating our house, doing outdoor sports and on sailing with my family.

My main research area is outcome and optimization of high-volume benign surgery. I am deeply involved in ventral hernia and abdominal wall reconstruction research, searching for better national results as well as improving outcome for the individual patient. Other major research areas that have my attention are bariatric surgery, focus on who will benefit from benign surgery and how to obtain best short and long-term results after benign upper GI surgery and abdominal wall reconstruction.
